Owner-run, sociable and on the Sand River
Umkumbe is a friendly, owner-run property on the Sand River in the Sabi Sand, and one of the most affordable ways to experience the reserve. There are two camps: Umkumbe Safari Lodge Riverside, overlooking the river, and Umkumbe Bush Lodge, a tented camp set in the trees.
Both have the same relaxed, sociable atmosphere, with dinners around the boma fire and rangers who are generous with their time and knowledge. Elephants and buffalo often gather in the riverbed in front of the lodge.
Game drives explore a part of the reserve known for big cats, with wild dog seen regularly too.
