Big Five safaris, made easy

South Africa is one of the easiest and most rewarding places in Africa for a safari. Excellent flight connections, superb guiding and a huge range of lodges mean you can be watching leopard in the Sabi Sands within hours of landing in Johannesburg.

Most of our South African safaris focus on the Greater Kruger, where private reserves and concessions offer off-road tracking and very few vehicles, or on malaria-free Madikwe. Many travellers combine the bush with a few days in Cape Town and the Winelands, or finish on the beach in Mozambique or Mauritius.

  • Best timeMay to October for game viewing; the bush is green and full of young animals from November to April
  • Getting thereFly into Johannesburg or Cape Town, then on to Skukuza, Hoedspruit or a lodge airstrip
  • Combine withCape Town, the Winelands, the Garden Route, Mozambique or Victoria Falls
  • MalariaLow risk in the Greater Kruger; Madikwe is malaria-free
