The destination

Malaria-free mountains, a few hours from Johannesburg

The Waterberg is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of rugged mountains, deep valleys and open plains in Limpopo, about three hours' drive from Johannesburg. It is malaria-free, which makes it a favourite with families and anyone short on time.

Reserves here offer the Big Five alongside rhino conservation, horse riding, walking and wide, dramatic scenery that feels very different from the Lowveld.
